The Global Risk Modelling Alliance has launched a new call for proposals to expand climate and disaster risk modelling capacity in Malawi, according to Funds for NGOs. The initiative aims to address existing gaps in climate data, improve forecasting systems, and strengthen local disaster preparedness to build long-term climate resilience.

In a related environmental effort, Malawi is set to benefit from the €40 million AFR100 and FAO-BMZ programme. As reported by the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, the funding focuses on restoring degraded land and combating climate change while improving community livelihoods.

Meanwhile, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has issued an updated weather forecast for April 16, predicting occasionally windy and generally cloudy conditions. According to the department, isolated thunderstorms and rain are expected primarily over lakeshore areas due to the influence of an easterly air mass.

Additionally, the World Council of Churches reports that religious and academic leaders recently gathered in Zomba for the Sustainable Alternatives for Poverty Reduction and Ecological Justice conference. Co-organised by the Malawi Council of Churches and local universities, the event focused on integrating theological ethics with biodiversity science to advocate for climate justice across Africa.
