Update: FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers will face off in a Blantyre derby at Bingu National Stadium this Saturday to open the domestic football season with the NBS Bank Charity Shield, according to the Football Association of Malawi. Ahead of the clash, NBS Bank announced an increased sponsorship package of K100 million for the 2026 event. The association confirmed that proceeds from the match will support the Green Girls Boarding program at Emvuyeni Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba District, a project managed in partnership with Plan International Malawi.

Update: In international women's football, the Malawi Scorchers secured a fourth-place finish at the FIFA Series tournament in Nairobi, Kenya. The team suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to India on Wednesday, reports Olympics.com. Khumalo Ireen and Henry Deborah scored for Malawi, but an 84th-minute goal by India's Priyadharshini Selladurai decided the third-place playoff match.

Update: Mighty Wanderers Head Coach Gerald Bob Mpinganjira begins a 10-day professional coaching placement at Queens Park Rangers in London today, April 17. According to Pan African Visions, Mpinganjira will work alongside the English club's coaching staff at their West London training centre. The placement was secured through the sports advisory firm Rainbow World Group to give African coaches direct experience in European professional football.
