Malawi and the European Union held their fourth Partnership Dialogue in Lilongwe on April 16, marking 50 years of bilateral relations, according to The Brussels Times. Co-chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister George T. Chaponda and EU Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi, the talks focused on future investment priorities under the EU Global Gateway programme. Discussions covered upcoming projects in infrastructure, energy, education, and agriculture, while officials also reviewed outcomes from the recent African Union and EU Summit, the COP30 climate meeting, and Malawi's Universal Periodic Review at the United Nations.

Update: The World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa and the African Union Commission have renewed their joint agreements to fight neglected tropical diseases following the 2026 NTD Programme Managers Meeting in Lilongwe, which concluded on April 16, the WHO reports. Malawi's Minister of Health and Sanitation Madalitso Baloyi addressed the delegates, noting the necessity of shared learning and practical health solutions to meet disease elimination targets by 2030. During the summit, regional participants reviewed a proposed cross-border collaboration agreement designed to strengthen joint actions against malaria, improve disease surveillance, and expand the local production of medicines.
