Update: Following earlier preparations for the Charity Shield derby, Mighty Wanderers have officially secured the 2026 trophy with a 1-0 victory over bitter rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. According to Pan-Africa Football, Cameroonian striker Thierry Tanjong scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute, finishing a rebound after goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu blocked an initial shot. The victory gave the reigning Super League champions their fourth consecutive win over Bullets, overcoming an early missed penalty by Wanderers attacker Isaac Kaliati.

The Charity Shield match serves as the official curtain-raiser for the 2026/2027 domestic football calendar. The FDH Premiership is scheduled to commence next weekend on April 25, where Wanderers will seek to defend their league crown and Bullets will look to end a two-year title drought.

Meanwhile, Malawi's Under-20 women's national team is gearing up for a crucial two-legged final qualifying tie against Nigeria for a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland. The Nigeria Football Federation reports that the first leg is set for May 2 in Abuja, with the return fixture scheduled for May 9 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. Malawi advanced to this final qualifying stage after a commanding 6-2 aggregate victory over Guinea-Bissau in the previous round.
