The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has issued updated weather forecasts for Malawi, predicting partly cloudy to cloudy conditions accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and rain. According to the department, these current weather patterns are driven by the influence of an easterly air mass moving across the region.

This recent meteorological update follows a period of severe weather events for the country. According to ReliefWeb, Malawi and neighbouring Southern African nations have been recovering from heavy rains and flash floods associated with the 2025 to 2026 La Niña cycle. These floods displaced communities and caused extensive environmental and infrastructural damage across the region.
