The Football Association of Malawi has announced new rule changes for the 2026/2027 football season, which will take effect on April 25, according to an official release from the association. Following amendments by the International Football Association Board, match officials will begin enforcing a visible five-second countdown for deliberately delayed throw-ins and goal kicks. The new regulations also mandate that substituted players must leave the pitch within 10 seconds. Furthermore, injured outfield players requiring a stoppage must remain off the field for a one-minute assessment period after play restarts.

Ahead of the new season, the Football Association of Malawi granted full club licenses to 14 Super League teams, according to the association's website. Approved clubs include Mighty Wanderers, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, and Ekhaya FC, an increase from the 11 teams approved last year. However, Civil Service United and Creck Sporting Club received licenses with sanctions. Both clubs have until May 21, 2026, to address outstanding compliance issues, or they will face an initial four-point deduction in the league standings, followed by additional monthly point penalties.

In domestic competition updates, the Football Association of Malawi reported that the 2026 NBS Bank Charity Shield match generated MK211.1 million in total revenue, yielding a net income of MK103.8 million, the association announced online. This marks a 68.8 percent increase from the previous year. The funds will support the Green Girls Boarding initiative at Emvuyeni Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba District, in partnership with Plan International Malawi.

Following the Charity Shield final at Bingu National Stadium, the Football Association of Malawi issued a formal apology over protocol lapses during the medal presentation ceremony, Nyasa Times reports. In a statement released on April 19, the association apologised to Lilongwe Mayor Peter Banda and the public for the operational oversight. The association clarified that the incident was unrelated to event sponsor NBS Bank and stated it has launched internal reviews to prevent similar protocol failures in the future.
