In celebrity and legal news, Ireland-based Malawian lawyer and activist Alexius Kamangila has sparked outrage after making unsubstantiated claims against Prophet Shepherd Bushiri during a live social media broadcast, according to Nyasa Times. The publication reports that Kamangila alleged Bushiri is operating a money laundering network and implicated several high-profile Malawian entertainers, including Wendy Harawa, Dorothy Kingston, Kell Kay, and Gwamba. The activist provided no evidence or legal documents to support the accusations, and Nyasa Times notes that none of the named artists have faced any formal charges regarding the allegations.

Update: The Malawian music scene saw more fresh releases this week as local artists dropped new tracks. According to the music platform Amati Zambiri, April 22 featured the release of Cassinovah's "Friend" featuring Levoh C, Extorn De Crest's "Penge" featuring B.L.O.C.K Boyz, Vineo Realest's "Ku India," and Skip Sky's "Ndipite". This followed the April 21 release of "Zipi Ndi Batani" by Malonie Kyz, as well as new singles from Phyzix and Janta.

In media industry news, aspiring Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi chairperson candidate Felix Washon has publicly defended his credentials ahead of the organisation's upcoming elections. Nyasa Times reports that Washon, who currently serves as the Media and Communications Manager for the Malawi Red Cross Society, dismissed rival claims that his work outside a traditional newsroom disqualifies him from the role. Washon argued that leading the media body requires strategic direction rather than daily reporting, pointing to his past experience as chairperson of the Bwaila Media Club, according to the outlet.
