The United Democratic Front (UDF) has urged President Lazarus Chakwera to directly address the nation regarding Malawi's deteriorating economic situation, according to Nyasa Times. In a strongly worded statement signed by UDF President Atupele Muluzi, the opposition party warned that the ongoing foreign exchange crisis, severe fuel shortages, and rising cost of living can no longer be managed through fragmented communication from government spokespeople. Muluzi noted that farmers and traders are struggling with escalating input costs and that unresolved governance failures, such as the Amaryllis Hotel scandal, are further eroding investor confidence.

In an update on the national budget review, civil society organisations operating under the Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan met with the Parliamentary Committee on Health to protest the allocation of public funds, according to a report published by the World Health Organization. The advocates, including Amref Malawi, highlighted that debt repayments now absorb 27 percent of the national budget. This heavy debt servicing burden has severely restricted the fiscal space for public services, leaving the health sector with an allocation of 9.2 percent of the proposed MK1.02 trillion budget, which falls short of the 15 percent commitment under the Abuja Declaration.

In business updates following earlier pledges of regulatory consistency, Vice President Jane Ansah addressed the 2026 Lakeshore Business Leaders' Summit in Mangochi to reassure the private sector about the government's economic strategy, according to Pan African Visions. Acknowledging longstanding concerns over fragmented decision-making, Ansah promised that the administration will improve consultations with corporate leaders before implementing new policies to secure long-term investment and stabilise the business climate.
