Update: FDH Bank has suspended all sports sponsorships in Malawi, including its backing of the national football team and the FDH Premiership, following a public dispute between the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), according to Pan-Africa Football. The commercial bank announced the immediate suspension on Sunday, stating that the standoff undermined the commercial viability of their partnership and negatively impacted the bank's brand image.

The financial withdrawal comes a day after the 2026-2027 FDH Premiership opening match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United was abandoned. The game failed to take place because SULOM scheduled the fixture at Blantyre's Kamuzu Stadium, which FAM had ruled unfit to host elite matches due to failed Club Licensing requirements, Pan-Africa Football reports. Although SULOM has since issued an apology to the bank, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya announced Sunday that the association will take disciplinary action against SULOM for defying its directives, according to Pan-Africa Football.

Meanwhile, in netball, the Malawi Under-21 national team prepared for its second Telkom Netball League match against the Limpopo Baobabs following a successful debut in South Africa, according to SABC Sport. The Queen Cubs defeated the KwaZulu-Natal Kingdom Queens 53-44 in their opening game, with Captain Mphatso Banda telling SABC Sport that players are using the tournament to push for senior national team call-ups ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
