Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has issued a formal apology to FDH Bank after the financial institution suspended its K5 billion football sponsorship, according to Pan-Africa Football. The suspension followed the abandonment of the FDH Premiership opening match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre due to an ongoing venue dispute. Nyasa Times reports that Haiya has vowed to summon the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to a disciplinary hearing, accusing the affiliate body of defying FAM directives which stated that the stadium was not certified to host elite matches.
In international women's football, Nigeria's U-20 Women's National Team has concluded a three-week training camp in Abuja in preparation for their upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi. According to The Sun Nigeria, the first leg of the final qualifying round between the Falconets and Malawi's U-20 squad will take place on Saturday, May 2 in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
In netball, the Malawi Under-21 squad secured a 53-44 victory over the Kingdom Queens in a Division 2 match during the opening week of South Africa's Telkom Netball League. GSport reports that the Queen Cubs held a narrow 25-22 halftime lead and were tied at 35-35 in the third quarter before pulling away to win the match. Florence Jeke earned Player of the Match honours for her performance in attack.
