The High Court of Malawi has overturned the suspension of Blantyre Water Board Chief Executive Officer Yeremia Chihana, ordering his immediate return to office. According to Nyasa Times, Justice Muhome delivered the ruling on April 27, the same day the board issued the suspension. The court order grants Chihana permission to challenge the board's decision through a full judicial review and mandates that he resume his duties within 24 hours of receiving the directive.
Under the injunction, the water board is required to restore Chihana's access to office premises, systems, and official communications. Nyasa Times reports that the court also barred the board from appointing a replacement or continuing any disciplinary actions linked to the suspension until Chihana is provided with all evidence and given a fair chance to respond. Justice Muhome directed the board to release key documents to Chihana and his legal team within 48 hours, noting that the balance of justice favors maintaining his position while the legality of the suspension is examined. Chihana has 14 days to file his full application for judicial review.
