Update: Following earlier announcements regarding its restructured academic calendar and undergraduate intake, the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has expanded its 2026 to 2027 admissions cycle. According to an April 28 statement from the university, MUBAS is now accepting applications for its September 2026 postgraduate intake, which includes multiple Master's and PhD programmes. The institution's Institute of Continuing Education has also opened enrollment for nonresidential certificate and diploma programmes scheduled to begin in July across its Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Salima centres.
In primary education, local communities are taking an active role in supporting digital learning initiatives across the country, MBC Online reports. Through the Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) programme, parents and local residents are assisting teachers in managing classrooms while young learners use educational tablets. MBC Online notes that the Ministry of Education is implementing the BEFIT initiative for students in standards one to four to improve early literacy and numeracy.
During a recent media tour in the Central Region, officials highlighted how schools are benefiting from this shared community responsibility. According to MBC Online, residents near Chitiwiri Full Primary School in Salima District formed a dedicated committee to help teachers during the tablet sessions. Committee chairperson Patrick Batiyoni stated that the community was motivated to participate after observing significant early improvements in children's reading and writing skills. The digital initiative is also supporting hundreds of learners at other regional institutions, including St. Joseph Primary School in Kasungu.
